Decarbonizing Existing Buildings

Decarbonizing Existing Buildings

Sanyog Rathod, Sol President & CEO, gave a talk on decarbonizing existing buildings at the Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit last week. The presentation, entitled "Scalable and Equitable Solutions for Carbon Neutral Buildings," outlines a path toward carbon neutrality for existing buildings via energy efficiency, electrification, and renewable energy; and discusses the synergies between this approach and improved equity and health outcomes.

"The solution is already here," said Rathod. "We are implementing these solutions in buildings we are designing and consulting on right now. There are renovations of existing buildings; there are historic preservation tax credit projects that we've done; there are affordable housing tax credit projects where we've met or exceeded efficiency goals using passive house principles. The solution is here. The question is how do we scale it?"

Each year, the Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit (presented by Green Umbrella) brings together hundreds of passionate business, nonprofit, government and community leaders to share inspiring forward-thinking and solution-oriented ideas that propel us toward a healthier, more resilient, sustainable and equitable future.
