The Mercantile Apartments Wins the Building Cincinnati's Future Award

On April 1, 2025, The Mercantile Apartments, developed by Model Group and designed by City Studios Architecture, won the Building Cincinnati’s Future Award in recognition of its efforts to change the trajectory of Greater Cincinnati. Sol design + consulting provided sustainability consulting services for the project, which achieved OAQDA (Ohio Air Quality Development Authority) certification. The project builds on Sol's deep experience with green retrofits of historic buildings, which often require a carefully customized approach to meet both historic preservation and sustainability goals.

The rehabilitation included the historic Mercantile and Formica buildings, adding 172 market-rate units to downtown Cincinnati, which judges noted would have a positive ripple effect on nearby businesses and the local economy.
