Nate Steeber Featured in USGBC Ohio Member Spotlight

Nate Steeber, Director of Certifications at Sol design + consulting, was featured by USGBC Ohio in the August Member Spotlight. He shared his thoughts on his work, reprinted below.

Sustainability Passion: Currently, it’s waste. There’s a problem with the way we function and how much waste we generate. I’ve paid close attention to my waste stream the last few months and the lifespan of the items in it. I’m working to significantly reduce my waste footprint.

Most meaningful experience with USGBC: While serving as a past chair of USGBC’s Emerging Professionals Committee, we organized a design competition for a new public streetcar. Our group managed everything – from sponsors and entry criteria to judging and the award ceremony. Entries came from around the globe. It was my first experience organizing on that level.

What will most impact the future of green building: Human health. Green building certifications are a good start, but we’re about to see a major shift in design. Joe Allen’s book, Healthy Buildings, significantly changed my view on this topic and I think it will cause ripples in the design community. Favorite LEED Project: Fairwood Commons.
