Sol Design + Consulting Wins 2023 CCBJ Business Achievement Award

Sol design + consulting has been honored with the 2023 Climate Change Business Journal Business Achievement Award. CCBJ Business Achievement Awards recognize accomplishments in the international climate change industry. Sol was a recipient of the Low-Carbon Energy Award category for its technical assistance to the New York State Energy Research and Development Agency's (NYSERDA's) Clean Energy Initiative (CEI). 

The CEI program is a partnership between the New York State Energy Research and Development Agency (NYSERDA) and New York State Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR). It is a key component of New York’s overall GHG reduction plan, which aims for an 85% reduction by 2050. Designed to build carbon-neutral affordable housing throughout New York State, the CEI program provides highly efficient, all-electric housing across New York State through new construction, adaptivereuse, and retrofit projects.

Sol was selected as a CEI Technical Assistance Provider (TAP) based on its deep expertise in affordable housing, having certified over 10,000 residential units across the Midwest and Northeast under a variety of green building rating systems;—and specifically its expertise in cold climates, which pose a unique challenge for electrification.

As a TAP, Sol acts as a liaison between owners, designers, and CEI program managers throughout the design, construction, and post occupancy tracking of the project, ensuring that CEI terms are met by the design team to secure full CEI funding and giving feedback aimed towards more efficient designs, cost savings, and better detailing to reduce change orders in construction. The scope includes energy modeling, technical reviews, and on-site testing, verification, and commissioning. To date, Sol has worked on over 300 units, including two projects pursuing Zero Energy Ready Homes and one pursuing Passive House certification.
