The Barrister, a 2024 Readers' Choice Historic Rehab Finalist

Sol design + consulting is excited to announce that The Barrister, an affordable housing project in downtown Cincinnati, has been named a 2024 Readers' Choice Awards Historic Rehab Finalist. These are the first affordable housing units built downtown in over two decades and Sol served as the National Green Building Standard (NGBS) consultant for the project,  co-developed by Over-the-Rhine Community Housing (OTRCH) and Urban Sites.

Located near the downtown Kroger grocery store and within walking distance of the Cincinnati Public Library, The Barrister comprises two historic office buildings, both meeting the rigorous standards required for NGBS certification. This certification not only guarantees that the building achieves high performance in energy efficiency, water conservation, and indoor air quality but also ensures that it is built to serve future generations while lowering long-term operating costs for residents. 

Projects like The Barrister are essential for creating equitable, vibrant communities with sustainable, long-term solutions.
