Sikes Residence Wins 2020 LEED Homes Award
Sol Design + Consulting has won the 2020 LEED Homes Award for Outstanding Single-Family Project. This international award, presented by the U.S. Green Building Council, recognizes the most innovative and transformative residential projects in the world.
Sol won for the design of the Sikes Residence, a LEED Gold home in Cincinnati, Ohio. The home, located on an infill lot in Cincinnati’s historic Clifton Gaslight neighborhood, began with the site: a steeply sloped, wooded property, with trees that were important to the community. The home is nestled into the hillside and sited to preserve existing trees. Other sustainable design features include a well-insulated envelope with continuous insulation, site design that manages 100% of the project’s stormwater on-site, and locally-sourced materials, including the striking hardwood floors.
The home’s sustainability strategies complement its other design goals, helping to create the warm, contemporary aesthetic that the homeowners desired. A light-filled entry leads to an intimate living area. A corner office looks out onto the forest. An airy master suite opens to a private deck. And a screened porch provides living space amongst the trees.
Sol provided both architectural design and sustainability consulting services for the project. You can learn more about the home here.
